Mix and Match Pendant Lighting

Your powder room is the perfect moment to introduce something unexpected in your home’s decor. By hanging mix and match pendant lighting in your powder room you can make the space artful and fun. We suggest three tips to keep in mind when selecting mix and match pendant lights:

Lighting Design Tips, Lighting Designer

1. Mix the shade finishes

The shade finishes in this photo are a mix of glass and metallic which really creates a layered look to the light and reflectivity. Make a few bulbs visible with a transparent shade for a great way to show off a cool bulb shape. The elongated bulbs available at Restoration Hardware create a cool effect.

2. Mix the shade shapes and sizes

Mix and match either 3 or 5 pendant shapes and sizes hanging them together as close as possible without the shades touching; always cluster odd numbers. You can mix bulb sizes too, just make sure you are using one type of lighting for consistency. These bulbs seen in the photo are LED.

3. Vary the hanging height of each pendant

By hanging simple pendant lights from Progress Lighting placed in varying heights, you’ll create a unique lighting experience. Using a mix of rod or chain suspensions will make the grouping more eclectic and interesting.

If you are going to hang the lights over a powder bath vanity, remember this is decorative lighting to create mood lighting and you will still need recessed lighting for functional down lighting.
