The Director of Sales & Business Development must possess the ability to carry a diverse workload and work with Designers, Merchandisers, Builders, Architects, Accounting and the Executive team of Marc-Michaels. Extensive travel throughout the state of Florida is required, sometimes overnight, so schedule will need to be flexible. Travel throughout the US and Internationally could be needed on occasion. This position requires excellent communication skills including but not limited to: internal coordination, public speaking, formal and informal presentations, difficult and/or direct conveyance of information and an articulate style in person, on the phone and via email/text. A strong grasp of business principals is essential with the ability to extract and understand business trends, profitability and market shifts and how to adjust accordingly.

The Director of Sales & Business Development is a key role within the Marc-Michaels organization. The expectations of success will adjust and increase over time based on company needs, as well as the competency and skill brought to the role. The growth opportunities for this position are not limited to sales and business development, but also in the Leadership of the Firm. Key Responsibilities

  • Market research and prospecting new model home and commercial projects
  • Assist with new potential residential clients
  • Create client confidence when assuming project responsibilities from other staff
  • Proposal letters, contract writing and contract negotiations
  • Model home budget development and programming with design staff
  • Drywall and framing walk-throughs (with design staff) as needed
  • Provide scheduling and installation support for design staff if needed
  • Assist w/logistical support in meeting deadlines
  • Vet potentials (typically calls, but may be in person) to ensure client is pre-qualified.
  • Work with Marketing to develop sales tools, promotion and target marketing needs, and provide strategy direction for marketing campaigns in line with market and business trends.
  • Requires extensive out-of-town, sometimes overnight, travel throughout entire state of Florida (and on occasion the greater US and Internationally)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least five years of applicable experience OR
  • At least 7+ years of outside sales/applicable experience

Expectations Guideline

  • Understand & learn luxury quality of the Marc-Michaels aesthetic
  • Understand & learn the Marc-Michaels “Art of the Sale” for meetings
  • Generate meaningful and productive contacts and leads that over time increase model merchandising and commercial projects for the firm.
  • Transition existing clientele successfully as well as be an effective manager to new clients of the firm; from origination to completion of project.
  • Integrate networking and representation opportunities to obtain prestigious positions on boards, councils, panels and strategic alliances with industry influencers.
  • Exhibit an expert command of scopes, fee structures and ability to manage all Marc-Michaels contracts from beginning>signing>addendums>project completion; supporting the President and Principal/Owner as well with all contractual needs (along with General Counsel).
  • Daily communication with President, Vice President, & Director of Marketing to keep everyone informed of schedules, meetings, interactions with design teams & assistance when needed.
  • Weekly emails including but not limited to:
    • Details of prospect builders/contacts to President, Vice President & CEO/Owner
    • Travel plans (out of office time), current and forecasted
    • Business hours (in office time), general detail of work week tasks and goals

  • Produce and/or oversee the selection and design of all FF&E, finishes and general design concept beginning with conceptual design taken through the phases of design development, construction documents, construction administration and installation
  • Coordinate proactively & collaborate with o ther members of the design team
  • Provide design solutions to guide fabrication consultants (custom furniture, soft goods, custom lighting, etc.). Review their shop drawings to ensure de sign intent is followed through
  • Accommodate deadline expectations agreed to by both client and design team
  • Coordinate with all or some of the following: private client, build er/GC, developer, and architect
  • Occasionally present design ideas and details with confidence

We are seeking a design intern who is currently a junior or senior enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program. During the course of the internship, the trainees or students will get exposure to the inner workings of an interior design firm as well as the opportunity to work hands on with some design projects.

Intern commitment is a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks, 16 hours per week minimum, but offer and encourage as much experience as possible up to 40 hours per week.
